BreastfeedLA – active and focused on advocacy!

BreastfeedLA is dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of infants and families through education, outreach, and advocacy to promote and support breastfeeding. Formerly known as the Breastfeeding Task Force of Greater Los Angeles, BreastfeedLA was formed in 1994 by a group of dedicated volunteers who wanted to make a difference in the breastfeeding rates in Los Angeles County. BreastfeedLA incorporated as a not-for-profit 501(c)3 corporation in September of 2001.

New projects include a recent launch of a formal menu of BreastfeedLA professional services. BreastfeedLA has excellent experience working with hospitals wherever they may be on their journey towards Baby Friendly designation. Headed by a senior program manager, Baby Friendly consultation services can include assessments, mock surveys, staff interviews, data analyzing, and action recommendation reports. Additionally, BreastfeedLA launched services for employers who need assistance understanding and/or adhering to workplace lactation accommodation laws. Headed by a lactation accommodation coordinator, BreastfeedLA can help explain laws, build or amend policy, train staff, and assist with creating lactation spaces. Having recently formed a very active Advocacy Committee that organized an Advocacy Day at the state capitol with California Work & Family Coalition last month, BreastfeedLA is most excited to present “Breastfeeding Advocacy 101 Training,” on August 31st at the California Endowment in downtown Los Angeles. This is a first-of-its-kind FREE training made possible by event co-sponsors ACLU Southern California, the California Women’s Law Center, South Los Angeles Health Projects, and the California Breastfeeding Coalition.
