October 11

This intensive three-day workshop provides the evidence, knowledge, and skills participants need to confidently support, establish, and protect both early mother-infant attachment and breastfeeding in the hospital setting. The first portion of the course (2 days), Birth & Beyond, highlights tools necessary to enhance early parent-infant attachment, and help families to listen to and understand the language of the newborn. Emphasis will be on honoring the mother's beliefs and choices surrounding infant feeding.

Additionally, the third day (Train the Trainer, can be taken alone if participant meets prerequisites) furnishes the evidence, knowledge, and skills participants need to confidently use the Birth & Beyond curriculum to train nurses on early mother-infant attachment and breastfeeding in the hospital setting. Emphasis will be on honoring the nurses' feelings and building the confidence needed to improve clinical skills.

Birth & Beyond is designed as a Staff Training Curriculum to meet the Baby-Friendly USA 4-D Pathway Guidelines, 2010 Edition.

This workshop is lively, participatory, and includes practical and fun activities to enhance learning.

A CD containing the Birth & Beyond curriculum PowerPoint  and Train the Trainer Manual will be provided to participants who take it.
