We are pleased to announce a live virtual training designed for childcare providers in at-home or center-based settings to learn how to support breastfeeding families in their care.  This training opportunity is designed for employees to learn about the benefits of breastfeeding, how breastfeeding works, how to create a breastfeeding-friendly environment, how to establish policies and procedures to support breastfeeding, how to properly handle, store and feed human milk to babies and toddlers, and how to support breastfeeding families with community resources.

There are 5 Building Blocks to Breastfeeding-Friendly San Diego (BFSD) Childcare and this training satisfies the completion of the 2nd Building Block. To become a designated Breastfeeding-Friendly Childcare Provider in San Diego County, providers complete the 5 simple steps using online resources found here:  https://ucsdcommunityhealth.org/work/breastfeeding/child-care/building-blocks/.

Providers who take this live virtual training do not need to take the online video training found at the website. Providers who decide to complete all 5 Building Blocks may self-nominate for recognition as a BFSD Childcare Provider with the SDCBC here:

 https://breastfeeding.org/child-care-providers/.

Kim Speckhahn, IBCLC and Marcela Lozano, IBCLC of TrueCare WIC will be the trainers/facilitators for 2 evening trainings:

Tuesday August 17th, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Zoom in English (Kim)

Tuesday, August 24th, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Zoom in Spanish (Marcela)

Check-in for both trainings will be 6:00 – 6:30 p.m.

Evaluation to follow 8:30 – 8:45 p.m.

We’ll give an overview of BFSD Childcare and designation and recognition process, deliver the actual employee training, and then open up for questions and discussion.  Participants will be required to fill out an evaluation form to receive credit for completion of 2nd Building Block.

The YMCA CRS will facilitate registration and host the online venue via Zoom. The SDCBC welcomes childcare providers who complete all 5 Building Blocks to self-nominate for designation and recognition on their website. These BFSD Childcare providers will be listed on both the SDCBC website for parents looking for breastfeeding-friendly childcare and will be highlighted as a YMCA CRS Wellness Champion with additional BFSD Childcare designation.  It’s a great and FREE opportunity to join the community of support for healthy childcare for healthy families!

Families don’t breastfeed alone.

Cultures breastfeed!
