Working to achieve the Healthy People 2020 objectives
The Healthy People 2020 Objectives for Maternal, Infant and Child Health (MICH) related to breastfeeding guide the work of the California Breastfeeding Coalition. The Healthy People 2020 Objectives provides science-based, 10-year national objectives for improving the health of all Americans. The MICH objectives related to breastfeeding are:
- Increase the proportion of infants who are breastfed
- Increase the proportion of employers that have worksite lactation support programs
- Reduce the proportion of breastfed newborns who receive formula supplementation within the first 2 days of life
- Increase the proportion of live births that occur in facilities that provide recommended care lactating mothers and their babies
