We have some exciting momentum to share! AB 2160, our bill to clarify and expand Medi-Cal coverage for lactation services, successfully passed through its last committee. We are one step closer to ensuring that every California family has timely access to the breastfeeding support they deserve.
New AB 2160 Co-Sponsor
We are excited to announce that the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists (ACOG) District IX has officially joined the CBC and the California WIC Association as a co-sponsor!
ACOG recognizes that lactation services are vital for the long-term health of both mother and baby. Having the leading authority on OB-GYN care standing with us reinforces just how critical this bill is for maternal health equity in California.
Where We Are At In The Process
The bill is now headed to the Assembly Appropriations Committee. Because this bill involves updating Medi-Cal guidance and provider enrollment, it will likely be placed on what is called the Suspense File. The Suspense File is a holding pattern where the committee reviews the fiscal impact of bills. To get AB 2160 off the suspense file and onto the floor for a vote, the committee needs to see a massive groundswell of community support.
We can not afford let this bill stall now!
What We Need From You, Our Community
We need to make our voices heard before May 8th. Here is how you can take action today:
- Submit a Letter of Support by May 8: This is the most impactful thing you can do.
- Share and Spread the Word: We need all the support we can get. Share this email with your network, ask your community to submit a letter this is how we will push this bill forward.
Currently, Medi-Cal families face confusing hurdles like needing prior authorizations or referrals just to get basic breastfeeding help. AB 2160 helps remove barriers and allow IBCLCs the ability to enroll as Medi-Cal providers.
Your support will help us move this forward!
