Guidelines and Instructions

The purpose of the CBC Advocate Voices Blog is to provide breastfeeding advocates throughout California a platform to share expertise and opinions that will inspire others to join our collaborative efforts to improve the health and well-being of Californians by protecting, promoting, and supporting breastfeeding, thereby removing all barriers to breastfeeding in California. The blog features coalition activities, evidence-based practices, legislation, news, commentary and reflections related to breastfeeding.

We welcome blog posts with the following guidelines:

  • Stay on topic; we will not post those that rant far afield.
  • Be civil and respectful of others.
  • Fact-check your blog post and provide references where applicable.
  • Send photos to accompany your blog when possible.
  • Cross blog postings are accepted with a link back to the original.
  • We do not accept blog posts that advertise a product or book, or endorse a candidate.

Who can write for the blog?

Anyone! We welcome blog posts from:

  • Breastfeeding Advocates
  • Coalition Members
  • Healthcare Providers
  • Hospitals Administrators
  • Parents and Parents-to-be
  • Public Health and Lactation Professionals

How do I write for the blog?

Please keep your blog post to breastfeeding related issues. We will prioritize blogs that feature coalition activities, evidence-based practices, legislation, news, commentary and reflections related to breastfeeding. You may contact Robbie Gonzalez-Dow,, to discuss your idea.

How long should my blog post be?

A good length is 500-800 words. You may refer to the following pages for some tips about writing a good post:

Be mindful that readers may be deterred from reading posts that are too long. Be concise and be sure to convey the main points and ideas of your posts without too much detail.

Will my blog post be edited?

Yes. We will review your blog post to ensure it meets our style guidelines. We may edit for structure, flow and language. If substantial edits are needed we may ask you to revise it and re-submit, or we will ask you to approve the changes we have made before it is posted. Blog posts or comments which do not fit within the CBC’s mission and vision will not be posted. All post and comments are subject to approval.
