Join BreastfeedLA for “Empowering Latinx Families in the NICU” with Alejandra Santizo de Leon, BSN, RN, IBCLC. This presentation explores the unique needs of Latina mothers and families in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), with a focus on promoting empowerment throughout their infant’s hospitalization and optimizing lactation success through culturally responsive and compassionate care.
Objectives – Here’s what you’ll learn:
- To identify the cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic barriers that impact Latina mothers’ access to equitable lactation support and decision-making power within the NICU environment.
- To develop and implement culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate interventions that enhance Latina mothers’ self-efficacy and agency in advocating for their lactation goals and overall well-being during their NICU journey.
- To equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge, skills, and cultural competencies necessary to effectively empower Latina mothers in the NICU to achieve their infant feeding goals.
