“Can’t I Just Have a Bottle Instead?” with Dr. Anne Eglash, MD, IBCLC, FABM

The Institute for the Advancement of Breastfeeding and Lactation Education

There are several reasons why newborns will not nurse in the first few days postpartum. This case based discussion will review possible reasons why newborns struggle to latch early postpartum, and options for management, with a focus on shared decision making.

Objectives:
1. Discuss early postpartum management of a breastfeeding dyad when the infant has not latched in the first 36 hours of age.
2. Discuss possible causes of failure to latch
3. Recite ways to help a dyad with infant feeding at the breast
