The San Diego County Breastfeeding Coalition presents Non-Profit Milk Banking: Filling The Mothers' Milk Gap a live webinar featuring Dr. Lisa Stellwagen, MD, FAAP. Dr. Stellwagen has over 35 years of clinical experience, she is the Executive and Medical Director for The University of California Health Milk Bank in addition to being a professor in the Department of Pediatrics at UC San Diego School of Medicine.

To set the foundation for the webinar, Dr. Stellwagen will open her presentation by illustrating the current APP recommendation for the use of pasteurized donor human milk in pediatrics. Next, she will explain in detail the rigorous safety protocols in non-profit milk banking that assure that donated milk is safe for use, for example, the screening process that must be completed by all prospective donor mothers. Continuing, she will define and outline the methodology behind the milk processing practices that retain milk’s nutritional and biological properties but prevent pathogen transmission. Additionally, she will speak on milk donation and donor milk use patterns in San Diego County. Last, she will provide information on The University of California Health Milk Bank's successes as well as, speaking on gaps that still exist and what can be done to fill them. In closing, she will update attendees on the current hot topics in the human milk banking world.
