Hosted by United States Breastfeeding Committee
Date: October 12, 2022
Time: 11 a.m. – noon PST
Join Dr. Aunchalee Palmquist as she unpacks colonial influences on gendered language, the fluidity of language in other cultures, and inclusive approaches to transform the culture of the First Food field. This exciting session will be held on Wednesday, October 12, from 2-3 p.m. ET. The session is complimentary, but donations are gratefully accepted during registration.
Language and culture have a complex yet profound, interdependent relationship. Language is a system of communication to build relationships and create a sense of community. Culture is a set of behaviors, beliefs, and values shared by a group of people that influences their behavior and the interpretation of other people’s behavior. Language influences culture, and culture influences language.
Dr. Palmquist will offer session participants the opportunity to be able to:
- Describe colonial influences on the language that is used today
- Identify resources and best practices for researching cultural perspectives on language
- Challenge inflexible views of language in the First Food field
Continuing education update: CERPS and CPEU for Dietitians have been applied for. Please identify your selection if applicable upon registration. The session is complimentary, but donations are gratefully accepted during registration.
