On Thursday, May 4, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM PST, BreastfeedLA presents “Supporting Families with Relactation and Induction,” a webinar featuring Andrea L. Braden, MD, IBCLC. According to the CDC, the majority of American parents intend to feed their infants with human milk. However, challenges related to milk supply, infant health, and societal stigma may result in families needing to supplement with infant formula. Long-term use of formula to supplement an infant’s diet introduces health risks to the feeding couplet. To mitigate risks to the feeding pair and to insure against food scarcity concerns secondary to formula supply chain issues, many families are seeking advice from lactation professionals about how to either induce milk production in a non-gestational carrier or how to re-establish milk supply in a gestational carrier who previously discontinued lactation. In this lecture, Breastfeeding Medicine Specialist and OB/Gyn doctor, Andrea Braden will review the background, evidence, and best clinical practices related to lactation induction and relactation for lactation support professionals.
Participants will be awarded 2.0 L-CERPS & 2.0 Contact Hours.
