This presentation provides a practical introduction to neurodiversity-informed lactation care. Participants will explore common neurodivergent traits, including sensory processing differences, communication preferences, and executive functioning differences, and explore how these experiences may coexist with the realities of breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and caring for a new baby. Through real-world examples and actionable strategies, attendees will learn how to create more accessible, affirming, and effective lactation support for neurodivergent parents and families.
Objectives:
- Identify common neurodivergent characteristics that may shape infant feeding and parenting experiences.
- Recognize how sensory processing differences, communication preferences, and executive functioning differences may influence lactation support needs.
- Apply practical, neurodiversity-affirming strategies to improve assessment, education, and lactation support.
- Utilize sensory-conscious tools, communication techniques, and environmental modifications to better support neurodivergent families.
