Babies who are 6 months of age plus demonstrating the other reliable signs of readiness to eat can safely self-feed a wide variety of foods. Parents and caregivers are often concerned about baby’s ability to eat safely. In this webinar we will cover evidenced-based best practices for preventing choking and maximizing safe feeding when transitioning to solid foods.

Our speaker, Katie Ferraro, is a registered dietician and mom of 7 who created the 100 First Foods approach to starting solid foods with baby-led weaning. She is an associate clinical professor of nutrition at UC San Francisco’s Graduate School of Nursing, and at the University of San Diego’s Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science, and a lecturer in the Exercise and Nutrition Science department at San Diego State University, where she specializes in online nutrition curriculum development.

By the end of this presentation attendees will be able to:

  • Identify common food and non-food choking hazards for infants
  • Demonstrate ways to safely prepare foods to reduce choking risk for infants
  • Recommend modifications for parents and caregivers to traditional infant feeding practices that can increase safety at mealtime for baby
